The Coolest News Coming Out of Coastal Delaware

A lot is happening across Coastal Delaware right now, and some of these updates are worth knowing before everyone else does.

From new openings and major approvals to seasonal experiences already being planned, here is a quick look at what is making headlines across the beach towns:

The Sunset Cruise and 100th Anniversary Cruise Are Already Scheduled

If you are already thinking about summer plans, you should have these cruises on your radar.

They leave from Angler’s Fishing Center in Lewes and take you through the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, across Roosevelt Inlet, and into the Harbor of Refuge, with views of the Delaware Breakwater East End Light and Harbor of Refuge Light along the way.

While the cruises do not go inside the lighthouses, they stop nearby for great views, and dolphin sightings are pretty common, so bringing a camera is a good idea.

It is a BYOB and snacks experience, making it feel a lot more relaxed than a typical guided tour.

The 2026 Sunset Cruise is scheduled for June 6th from 7pm to 9pm, and the 100th Anniversary Cruise will take place on September 19th from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

Tickets are $45 per person, and you will need to call Red at (302) 226-3866 to check availability before filling out the registration form.

The New Visit Delaware Travel Guide Is Now Available for the First Time Since 2020

Delaware finally released a brand new Visit Delaware Travel Guide, marking the first update in 6 years, and it comes with a lot more than just refreshed listings.

The guide, which was released on March 24th at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover, has new photos, new business and attraction listings, and stories that show off the people and places that make the state special.

Jessica Welch, the director of the Delaware Tourism Office, says that the guide is meant to be a one-stop shop for ideas, inspiration, and useful planning information.

Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay also talked about how Delaware has a lot to offer along its 96-mile stretch, from beach getaways and beautiful trails to historic sites, festivals, and restaurants.

The guide goes beyond the coast to focus on things to do in all three counties, such as outdoor activities, arts and culture, agritourism, and the state's growing food and craft beverage scene.

It also shows off local businesses and hidden gems, so it's just as useful for people who have been there before as it is for people who are going for the first time.

Thompson Island Brewing Company Recognized as Community Champion

Thompson Island Brewing Company was recently recognized as a Community Champion by Cape Henlopen High School during the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education meeting on March 26th.

The award is connected to its ongoing partnership with the school's vocational program, which began in 2023 and gives students real-world restaurant experience twice a week.

Students have a lot of different jobs to do, such as filling salt and pepper shakers, stocking ice bins, setting tables, cleaning menus and flight holders, washing windows, vacuuming, washing dishes, and helping keep everything organized.

The program helps students learn how to work together, be responsible, and be confident, in addition to giving them useful job skills.

Thompson Island goes even further by giving students a meal and drink after their shifts.

School staff talked about how the partnership has helped students learn and grow in important ways and said they plan to keep working together.

DiFebo’s Is Getting Ready to Open a New Steak Shop in Bethany Beach

If you are always on the lookout for a good sandwich spot in Coastal Delaware, this is one to keep an eye on.

DiFebo's is getting ready to open a new steak shop right next to its market in Bethany Beach.

The shop will have a full sandwich menu, but the cheesesteaks will probably be the most popular item.

This is especially true for people who already know about DiFebo's and the loyal customers they have built up over the years.

People already know them for their homemade pasta, fresh seafood, and sandwiches that people keep coming back for, so this new addition seems like a good fit.

It also gives Bethany Beach another casual place to eat that could become a favorite for a quick but good meal.

Dewey Beach Council Approves the Lighthouse Beachside Dining Request

Beachside dining is officially coming to Dewey Beach after the Town Council unanimously approved The Lighthouse's request to expand seating onto the sand.

In a 5 to 0 vote, the council signed off on a six-month lease that will allow the restaurant to place tables on a nearby section of public beach from May 1st through October 31st.

The setup will include 10 tables with seating for up to 44 people, giving visitors the chance to dine with their toes in the sand starting right at the beginning of the season.

The proposal did raise concerns from some community members about maintaining public beach access, while others supported it as a way to improve the overall visitor experience and add more seating options.

Under the approved conditions, the restaurant must keep the area organized, maintain public access at all times, limit alcohol consumption to designated seating areas, and clear all tables by 11pm each night.
