Grandpa Mac Closing After 10 Years in Rehoboth Beach

After a decade of serving inventive mac and cheese creations along Coastal Highway, Grandpa Mac has announced it will close its current location at the end of this month, February 2026.

The news has sparked an outpouring of support from loyal customers who have made the fast-casual spot part of their regular Rehoboth Beach routine.

While the closure marks the end of an era for the physical location, the owners made it clear that the Grandpa Mac story is not necessarily over.

A Decade of Mac and Cheese on the Eastern Shore

Grandpa Mac opened in 2015 and quickly became one of those easy go-to spots when you just wanted something comforting and satisfying (and of course centered around mac n’ cheese).

The menu revolved around mac and cheese, but it was far from basic. There were creative combinations, bold sauces, and plenty of ways to customize your bowl.

Beyond the mac, they also served fresh salads, sandwiches, and soups, making it a solid option whether you were craving something indulgent or keeping it light.

What really kept people coming back, though, was the balance. It was quick and casual, but the food never felt rushed.

The pasta was made daily, the ingredients were fresh, and there were gluten-free and vegan options, so everyone at the table could find something.

It was the kind of place you could bring your family after the beach, meet friends for a relaxed lunch, or stop in for a beer and a bowl of mac without overthinking it.

Over time, it became part of many people’s regular rotation in the Rehoboth area.

Owners Call the Decision “Bittersweet”

In a video announcement shared with customers, the owners described the decision to close the current location as bittersweet.

“It’s been a great 10 years here at Grandpa Mac,” they said. “We’ve done a little over a decade. We are going to close this location after 10 years. It’s a bittersweet thing for us, but we want to give it to you straight.”

They took time to thank the community for its continued support, highlighting the relationships built over the years.

“We just wanted to thank everybody out there over the last 10 years for your patronage, for coming in, for the laughs, the smiles.”

The owners are encouraging customers to stop in for one last meal at the Coastal Highway location & indulge in some last days stories with the staff.

Not the End of the Brand

Although the physical location is closing, the owners were clear that this is not necessarily the end of Grandpa Mac as a concept.

“We’re not saying it’s the end of Grandpa Mac. More to come, more things to be had, more fun Mac and cheeses to be eaten.”

That statement has left many customers wondering what the next chapter might look like.

Whether that means a new location, a reimagined concept, or another venture entirely remains to be seen. For now, the focus is on finishing strong in the current space.

One local commenter summed up the sentiment many are feeling, calling it a sad day and praising the restaurant’s creative pasta dishes and sauces.

The chef behind the menu was described as one of the most talented in Delaware, with hopes that new culinary adventures are ahead.

What Could Be Next for the Location

Adding another layer to the story, there is growing talk about what may replace Grandpa Mac at its current Coastal Highway address.

According to local chatter, Kathryn and James of Palm Beach Grill in Midway, which is also closing, are expected to open their original concept, First State Corn & More, in the former Grandpa Mac space.

While no official announcement has been made, the possibility has already sparked curiosity among local diners.

A Changing Restaurant Scene in Rehoboth Beach

Restaurants in beach towns naturally change over time. Seasons shift, costs rise, and new concepts move in. Still, when a place lasts 10 years, it becomes part of the local routine.

Grandpa Mac was not just another quick stop. For many, it was a tradition.

The encouraging part is that the owners are not closing the door on the brand itself. It sounds more like a new chapter than a final goodbye.

But in the meantime, there is still time to stop in, order your favorite bowl, and enjoy it while it lasts.
