The Cultured Pearl, a long-time favorite located in Rehoboth Beach, is preparing for exciting changes.

After receiving approval from city commissioners, the restaurant is ready to expand its outdoor dining patio and refresh its indoor layout just in time for the busy season.

Entering its 33rd year of business, The Cultured Pearl continues to evolve.

Owner Susan Wood explained that updating the space every few years keeps the customers and staff energized.

What’s Changing at The Cultured Pearl

The project began when Wood approached the city in September to address a leaking issue by moving the bar 10 feet.

Since the permit process had to be reopened, she decided to include additional updates to enhance the dining experience.

Key upgrades include:

  • Moving the bar to resolve maintenance concerns
  • Expanding the outdoor dining patio for ample enjoyment for guests
  • Increasing outdoor seating capacity from 60 to 102 seats
  • Taking advantage of updated city code that expanded the allowable outdoor dining space from 750 to 1,000 square feet

Construction is expected to be completed by Thursday, May 1st, allowing diners to enjoy the new setup just as the weather warms up and in time for the busy summer season.

As part of the approval, The Cultured Pearl must adhere to a condition regarding its trash facility.

The door to the restaurant’s air-conditioned trash room, which faces Sussex Street, must remain closed at all times except when trash is actively being removed.

This measure helps maintain cleanliness and reduces unwanted odors for neighboring businesses and pedestrians.
