The Sussex Preservation Coalition (SPC) is launching its first major fundraising event, the Green Gala, on Wednesday, May 14th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Baywood Greens in Long Neck.
This special evening aims to support the protection of Sussex County's natural ecosystems, local waterways, and woodlands.
An Evening of Entertainment and Support
Guests at the Green Gala can expect a lively and engaging evening featuring:
- Gourmet hors d'oeuvres
- Silent auction
- 50/50 raffle
- Live entertainment
- Cash bar
You can buy tickets for the event online.
SPC will share 30% of all proceeds from the gala with the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays (CIB), an organization known for its science-based planning and monitoring of Rehoboth, Indian River, and Little Assawoman Bays and their watersheds.
These areas are vital to local wildlife and generate millions in annual economic activity.
"As federal support for environmental protection dwindles, local action is more important than ever," said SPC President Jill Hicks. "Events like this allow us to close the gap and support critical conservation efforts."
Inspiring the Next Generation Through Outdoor Learning
Also on May 14th, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays will host the final session of its spring Homeschool Series at James Farm Ecological Preserve in Ocean View.
Themed "Native Plants," this session will teach children about the importance of native species to water quality, wildlife, and the environment.
The Homeschool Series is designed for ages 6-12 and blends classroom instruction, outdoor exploration, and take-home activities.
Though free to attend, a suggested donation of $10 per learner helps support the program and their future programs & classes.
Pre-registration is required in order to attend.
