The Southern Delaware Orchestra is inviting audiences to step into a world of music, myth, and imagination this October.
With a program inspired by beloved tales and timeless symphonies, Fantasies and Fairy Tales promises a concert experience that feels straight out of a storybook!
A Magical Afternoon of Music
The Southern Delaware Orchestra (SODELO) is set to captivate audiences with its upcoming fall concert, Fantasies and Fairy Tales.
Taking place on October 11th at Sussex Academy in Georgetown and October 12th at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, this musical journey promises an unforgettable celebration of imagination, storytelling, and symphonic beauty.
Under the baton of Music Director James Allen Anderson, SODELO’s talented musicians will bring to life some of the most iconic classical works ever composed.
The program includes selections famously featured in Disney’s Fantasia, such as:
- Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain
- Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
- Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor
Adding to the magic, audiences will also experience Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Berlioz’s March to the Scaffold, and Eric Whitacre’s October, each piece weaving its own spell through dramatic melodies and cinematic depth.

From Small Ensemble to Thriving Symphony
SODELO’s story began in early 2022 when violinist and retired marketing executive Steve Greifer posted online searching for local musicians to play chamber music. What started as a casual idea soon blossomed into something much larger.
Lewes violinist and retired orchestra director Eva DelGallo saw the post and envisioned the creation of a full community orchestra for Southern Delaware.
When they approached James Allen Anderson, Head of Orchestral Studies at the University of Delaware, they hoped for a referral. Instead, Anderson agreed to lead the group himself, bringing professional expertise and passion that helped the orchestra grow rapidly.
By July 2022, the newly named Southern Delaware Orchestra debuted in Lewes to a full house and standing ovation.
Since then, the group has expanded from 30 string players to a 70-member symphony orchestra, performing across Delaware at venues including The Grand Opera House in Wilmington, the Rehoboth Convention Center, and the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville.
A Concert for the Whole Community
SODELO’s Fantasies and Fairy Tales concert is an ideal outing for families, music lovers, and anyone seeking a touch of magic this fall.
Audiences can look forward to an afternoon of powerful performances that blend nostalgia, fantasy, and timeless artistry.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students and faculty, with free admission for children 10 and under. Admission is also free for all students and faculty attending the Sussex Academy concert.
