Smokin’ D’z BBQ, a beloved local barbecue business, is gearing up for a fresh start at a new location after its original site was cleared for development.
Fans of the popular red mobile trailer can soon find it at Hopkins Farm Creamery west of Lewes, with an official re-opening set for the first weekend of May.
A Move Rooted in Community Support
For 14 years, Smokin’ D’z operated at the corner of Cave Neck Road and Route 1.
However, the property is now being prepared for a new development called Chappell Farm, prompting the business to relocate.
Fortunately, community support played a crucial role in securing a new home.
- Customers and community members suggested alternative locations.
- Owner Damian Birl reached out to the Hopkins family, who ultimately welcomed the business onto their farm.
- The relocation process included installing water and electric services to accommodate the BBQ trailer.
What to Expect at the New Location
Located at 18186 Dairy Farm Road, at the corner of Route 9, Smokin’ D’z BBQ will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., except on Mother’s Day.
The season will run through until closing, taking place after the third weekend of October.
Despite the change in location, the Birls assure customers that their menu and traditions remain the same.
- Signature dishes include smoked baby back ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and various cuts of chicken.
- Homemade sides and their famous GC Pickles, named after their sons Gavin and Collin, will also be available.
- The business has built a loyal following, with families returning regularly to celebrate special occasions & weekend outings.
A Tradition That Continues
Katherine Birl, who co-owns Smokin’ D’z with her husband Damian, expressed gratitude for the continued support of their customers.
With a strong following and a new location, they look forward to serving up their fan-favorite BBQ for years to come.
