As June approaches and Delaware gears up to celebrate National Ocean Month in June, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is inviting residents to share their personal connections to the ocean.
Your Story Matters
Whether it's a childhood memory of beachcombing, a professional relationship with the sea, or simply a deep appreciation for Delaware's coastline, DNREC wants to hear it.
Stories can reflect how the ocean has shaped lives, inspired curiosity, or influenced careers.
- Submissions will be compiled in a publicly accessible story catalog.
- Selected stories will be featured by DNREC throughout June.
- All participants will be entered into a raffle to win a DNREC prize pack.
Kristi Lieske, an ocean planner at DNREC, emphasized that every story contributes to Delaware’s shared maritime identity: “Ocean lovers all have an ocean story.”
Contributing to a Bigger Picture
In addition to sharing community experiences, submissions may also be included in Delaware’s Ocean and Bay Plan.
This plan is a comprehensive tool designed to help stakeholders and policymakers better manage the growing demands on ocean and bay resources.
With pressures from increased marine activity, ranging from commercial shipping to underwater cable installations, alongside environmental challenges like sea level rise and warming waters, the need for sustainable ocean management is more crucial than ever.
Deadline Approaching
Submissions for the “Voices of the Tide” story project are due by Thursday, May 15th. To participate or learn more, visit their website for all the details.
