DuPont Nature Center Reopens for 2025 Season with New Exhibits

Nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers can once again visit the DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve as it reopens for the 2025 season on Wednesday, April 2nd. 

With stunning views and exciting new exhibits, the center offers an immersive experience into the unique ecosystem of the Delaware Bay.

Explore Delaware Bay’s Biodiversity

Managed by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the Division of Fish and Wildlife, the DuPont Nature Center provides visitors with:

  • Scenic Views: The observation deck offers a prime vantage point to witness the annual spawning of horseshoe crabs and the migration of shorebirds, including the federally threatened red knots.
  • Interactive Exhibits: New displays highlight the environmental and historical importance of Mispillion Harbor, deepening visitors’ understanding of local aquatic life & its significance.
  • Live Wildlife Cameras: Real-time feeds showcase nesting ospreys and other local wildlife, accessible both at the center and online to enjoy viewing at home.

Seasonal Schedule & Admission

Starting in April, the center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following days:

  • April : Wednesdays and Saturdays only
  • May through August : Tuesdays through Saturdays (closed Sundays and Mondays)
  • September: Wednesdays and Saturdays only
  • Closed every day from October through March

Located at 2992 Lighthouse Road near Slaughter Beach, the DuPont Nature Center offers free admission for all individuals, making it an accessible destination for all visitors.
