Delaware’s tourism industry has reached an all-time high, with the estimated and recorded number of 29.3 million visitors to our state in 2023

This marks a 2.4% increase from 2022, according to data from Rockport Analytics and Longwoods International.

A Vital Economic Driver

Tourism plays a crucial role in Delaware’s economy, contributing:

  • $7 billion in visitor spending (a 7% increase from 2022)
  • $4.7 billion to the state’s GDP
  • $724 million in state and local tax revenue
  • 55,240 jobs, making tourism the fourth-largest private employer in the state

Governor Matt Meyer emphasized the importance of tourism, noting that Delaware’s diverse attractions—ranging from scenic beaches to cultural destinations—continue to draw visitors. 

He also highlighted the welcoming atmosphere that keeps people returning year after year.

Surveys show that visitors are highly satisfied with their experiences in Delaware. In 2023:

  • 71% of overnight travelers reported being “very satisfied”
  • 85% of overnight visitors were repeat travelers
