Beebe Healthcare’s Family Medicine Residency Program continues to grow, welcoming four newly matched physicians to its ranks.
This marks the third consecutive year that the program has successfully placed four medical school graduates into its three-year training curriculum.
Expanding Medical Training in Sussex County
With this latest addition, Beebe’s residency program now includes 12 physicians across three training years.
These residents gain hands-on experience in various clinical settings, including emergency and operating rooms, as well as specialized areas such as OB-GYN, pediatrics, cardiology, ophthalmology, and orthopedics.
“This is our third Match Day, and it wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from Beebe’s leadership, faculty, and community,” said Dr. Jeffrey Hawtof, Director of Medical Education at the R. Randall Rollins Center for Medical Education.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these talented new doctors to Beebe and Sussex County.”
Meet the New Residents
The four physicians joining Beebe’s residency program this year are:
- Javed Akhtar, MD – Originally from Magnolia, Akhtar attended Dow Medical School in Pakistan and earned a master’s in physician assistant studies from the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky. He currently treats patients at Beebe’s walk-in care centers and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and cycling.
- Fiza Fatima, MD – A graduate of Shalamar Medical and Dental College in Lahore, Pakistan, Fatima has a passion for cooking, knitting, Urdu literature, and fashion design.
- William Kang, DO – Hailing from Edison, New Jersey, Kang completed his medical degree at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He previously completed a fourth-year rotation at Beebe and enjoys rock climbing, tai chi, and cooking.
- Pranav Tyyala, MD – Originally from Vijayawada, India, Tyyala earned his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. His hobbies include basketball, chess, cycling, and gardening.
Looking to the Future
In addition to welcoming the new residents, the program celebrated another milestone—continued accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
“This achievement underscores Beebe’s commitment to training high-quality physicians for Sussex County,” said Tanya Ray, Administrative Director of Graduate Medical Education.
Beebe also announced the upcoming opening of its new Long Neck Health Center in early June. This facility will provide expanded space for current and future residents to serve the area’s growing, diverse population.
“In July, we’re excited to welcome our latest class of resident physicians into a brand-new practice,” said Dr. Joyce Robert, Founding Program Director of the residency program.
“These milestones celebrate the dedication and hard work of our team as we continue bringing top medical talent to Sussex County.”
