Beebe Healthcare is set to break ground on a new hybrid emergency room and walk-in clinic campus in Millsboro, continuing its mission to expand access to medical services in Sussex County.
The new site, located at the intersection of U.S. Route 113 and Hardscrabble Road near the Delaware Route 1 bypass, was approved by the Millsboro Town Council and is part of Beebe's long-term strategic plan.
A Campus Designed for Accessibility and Innovation
The new facility will include a 24,000-square-foot hybrid emergency room equipped with lab services and diagnostic imaging, as well as:
- A 72,000-square-foot ambulatory care center
- 360 parking spaces
- Pediatric services in partnership with Nemours
- Future expansions for primary care and community wellness initiatives
Proximity to the new bypass is expected to improve response times for first responders and reduce travel time for patients who previously had to reach Lewes.

A Vision Rooted in Community Needs
Beebe Healthcare purchased the 41-acre property in early 2023, later selling 18 acres to DelDOT to support bypass construction.
The remaining land will house the new health campus, with some space intentionally reserved for future services based on evolving community needs.
The Millsboro site is positioned to alleviate this imbalance by offering accessible and preventative care options.
Technology and Partnerships Drive Growth
Beebe's expansion in Millsboro aligns with its broader strategic plan to serve every resident in Sussex County within a 20-minute radius.
The health system is also investing $50 million in Epic, the nation’s leading electronic medical record system, to improve care coordination and data access for both patients and providers.
Collaboration with healthcare partners like Nemours and Jefferson Health ensures patients receive specialized care without the burden of travel or provider disconnect.
