In the historic town of Lewes, Delaware, dining is as much about the setting as it is about the flavors.

In this edition of our Restaurant Spotlight Series, we’re diving into two of the town’s most talked-about spots, one a refined, romantic dinner destination, and the other a lively, laid-back brewery where the community gathers over craft beers and local food.

Bramble & Brine

At the corner of Second Street and Savannah Road, Bramble & Brine at The Buttery stands proudly inside one of Lewes’s most charming Victorian homes, located in the heart of historic Lewes.

The building itself sets the tone, elegant, historic, and full of character, while the restaurant within, led by local restaurateur Megan Kee, brings a touch of contemporary sophistication and Southern warmth.

The space feels timeless. Soft lighting, white table linens, and a cozy wraparound outdoor seating make it an ideal setting for a special night out or a slow Sunday brunch.

Inside, guests are greeted with a mix of vintage charm and modern refinement, the kind of place where every meal feels like an occasion.

The menu celebrates seasonal American cuisine with Southern flair, showcasing local ingredients and comforting flavors elevated through skill and creativity.

Among the small plates, standouts include the Fall Burrata with house apple butter gastrique, caramelized pumpkin seeds, and grilled focaccia, a perfect balance of creamy, sweet, and savory.

The Broiled Oysters with crab imperial and crispy brioche triangles are a decadent favorite, while the Cheddar Biscuit Basket with whipped honey butter is simple, nostalgic perfection.

For dinner, the signature Meatloaf Wellington is a showstopper, a rich, savory loaf wrapped in buttery pastry with Nueske’s applewood bacon, wild mushrooms, creamed Swiss chard, and roasted mushrooms in house jus.

Other highlights include the Low Country Battered Ribeye, crisp and hearty over corn grits, and Heritage Chicken Cacciatore with wild mushrooms, gnocchi, and fingerling potatoes.

Seafood lovers will appreciate dishes like Marge’s Crab Cake, Seafood Mac and Cheese, and Crispy Cornmeal Snapper, each bringing a coastal touch to the refined Southern approach.

And if you stop by for brunch, don’t miss Winifred’s French Toast, inspired by the owner’s mother’s recipe, served with brandied peaches and brown butter pecans.

Desserts receive the same attention to detail, from the Carrot Cake Cheesecake to Ruby’s Rum Cake, each a sweet finish to a memorable evening.

Service is polished but warm, and the atmosphere feels both upscale and welcoming, perfect for romantic dinners, anniversaries, or celebratory nights out.
