Delaware drivers now have a new way to help animals in need.
The state’s Office of Animal Welfare (OAW) has unveiled a specialty license plate that directly supports initiatives aimed at improving the lives of companion animals.
Drive with a Purpose
Available through the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the new Animal Welfare License Plate features colorful illustrations of animals set against a scenic background.
It costs $50, with $35 from each sale going directly to the State Spay Neuter Fund.
This program is more than just decorative, it actively contributes to reducing animal homelessness throughout the state.
Where the Money Goes
Revenue generated by the plate supports:
- Spay and neuter surgeries for low-income pet owners
- Community cat programs
- Supplemental funding for shelters and rescue organizations
"Spaying and neutering are the most effective and humane ways to control pet populations," said Joanna Miller, deputy director of OAW. "But the services can be out of reach for some pet owners."
By expanding access to these services, the fund helps prevent overpopulation and improves conditions for animals statewide.
How to Get Yours
Ordering the plate is simple:
- Plates can be purchased online or by mailing in an application
- No need to wait for your registration renewal
- The specialty plate is available year-round
Christina Motoyoshi, director of OAW, expressed excitement about the initiative. "This is a unique way for residents to show their commitment to animal welfare while supporting a great cause."
A Small Step with a Big Impact
For Delaware residents who care about animal welfare, this license plate offers a visible and impactful way to contribute.
Every plate purchased supports life-changing programs that keep animals safe and healthy.
