Jenny Nauman, assistant superintendent of Cape Henlopen School District and longtime educator, has been appointed the district’s new superintendent, beginning July 1.
Nauman will succeed current Superintendent Bob Fulton, who is retiring after 13 years of impactful service.
The decision came during the April 14 board meeting, where the school board unanimously voted to promote Nauman.
The appointment, made in less than three minutes, came as a surprise to Nauman, who had been preparing to present on the district’s future — unaware that the board had already made their decision in an earlier executive session.
A Career Devoted to Cape
Nauman has been with Cape Henlopen since 2008. Her career within the district includes roles as:
- Assistant principal at Rehoboth Elementary
- Principal of Richard A. Shields Elementary (now Lewes Elementary) for eight years
- Assistant superintendent since 2018
Her accolades include being named Delaware’s National Distinguished Principal in 2016 and the state’s Assistant Superintendent of the Year in 2022.
A Trusted and Proven Leader
Board President Alison Myers expressed strong support for Nauman’s appointment, citing her extensive experience and proven leadership within the district.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor’s in elementary and special education (University of Delaware)
- Master’s in administration (Wilmington University)
- Doctorate in educational leadership (Wilmington University)
“On behalf of the Cape Henlopen Board of Education, we are pleased to announce that we have appointed Dr. Jenny Nauman as our new superintendent.” said Myers.
She praised Nauman’s work as assistant superintendent, highlighting her role in shaping the district’s strategic plan and advancing its core mission of “Excellence, Equity, and Responsiveness. Every Student, Every Classroom, Every Day.”
Retiring Superintendent Bob Fulton also voiced his strong endorsement of Nauman’s promotion, describing her as a natural fit for the position. “I can think of no one more capable or committed to leading this district than Dr. Nauman.”
Fulton noted that after working alongside her for seven years, he’s witnessed her unwavering dedication to students, staff, and the broader school community.
In her first remarks as superintendent, Nauman reflected on her long-standing relationship with the district and outlined her leadership philosophy. “My leadership will be grounded in listening, transparency, and results.”
Nauman concluded by expressing her gratitude for the opportunity and the road ahead. “Together, we will ensure Cape Henlopen continues to be a model of excellence for now and in the future. I am truly honored, humbled, and excited to take on the role.”
Looking Ahead
Nauman is committed to keeping students at the heart of every decision and supporting the teachers and staff who help the district thrive.
